A former HGTV show host visits Charlotte to talk renovation tips, a local nonprofit launches an innovative affordable housing loan program and a national real estate investment trust doubles down on the Charlotte market. 1. Common Wealth Charlotte to make affordable housing loans: In December, Common Wealth Charlotte launched a new loan program designed to help low-income wage earners in Charlotte secure affordable housing by assisting them with up-front rental fees. Chuck Jones, Executive Director of the financial-empowerment nonprofit, spoke with WBTV’s Jamie Boll about the new program.
2. HGTV host visits Greater Charlotte Home & Landscape Show: Ati Williams, home renovation expert and former host of HGTV’s “DC Flippers,” appeared at the Greater Charlotte Home & Landscape Show as a celebrity speaker in January. During her visit, Williams appeared on WBTV’s “QC Morning” program as well as WCNC’s “Charlotte Today” morning show.
3. New active-adult community breaks ground: National homebuilder Taylor Morrison broke ground on Pinnacle at Wesley Chapel, the company’s first 55-plus community in the Charlotte region. The community will feature 60 ranch-style homes starting in the mid-$300,000s.
4. Armada Hoffler Properties embarks on two new projects in Charlotte market: A real estate investment trust based in Virginia Beach, Va., Armada Hoffler Properties plans to develop Ten Tryon, a 15-story tower in uptown Charlotte, and it will also lead the redevelopment of the Chronicle Mill near historic downtown Belmont. (Update: On March 19, Armada Hoffler announced that it would be deferring the projects until economic conditions stabilize.)
